In mid-April, at the occasion of the CEO breakfast on 'Base of the Pyramid Strategies' in Amsterdam, Ms. Agnes van Ardenne-van der Hoeven, Dutch Minister for Development Cooperation, pointed to the WBCSD as a positive example that shows that business is prepared to develop sustainable solutions. She also stated that the role of the private sector is pivotal in order to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, arguing that "after all, the road to development leads through the market place, not through some government office."
